Notification Preferences

Petfolio can send you helpful notifications about your pet's care. Learn how to customize what alerts you receive and how you receive them.

Accessing Notification Settings

To manage your notifications:

1. Click your profile icon in the navigation
2. Select Profile > Notifications
3. Or navigate directly to notification settings

Types of Notifications

Push Notifications

Alerts sent to your device:

• Appear on your phone or computer
• Work even when Petfolio isn't open
• Can include sounds or vibrations
• Require permission to enable

Email Notifications

Messages sent to your email:

• Summaries and digests
• Account-related alerts
• Marketing and tips (optional)
• Always delivered regardless of device

Available Notification Categories

Medication Reminders

Get alerts when medications are due:

• Before dose time - Reminder before scheduled dose
• Missed dose alerts - If a dose wasn't logged
• Refill reminders - When medication supply is low

Customize timing:

• 5, 15, 30, or 60 minutes before
• Choose which medications trigger reminders

Sitter Activity Alerts

Stay informed during pet sitting:

• Check-in alerts - When sitter arrives
• Activity updates - Feeding, walks, etc.
• Photo notifications - When photos are shared
• Check-out alerts - When sitter leaves

Great for peace of mind while traveling.

Appointment Reminders

Never miss a vet visit:

• Day before - Reminder the day before
• Day of - Morning of the appointment
• Custom timing - Set your preferred reminder time

Vaccination Due Dates

Stay on top of immunizations:

• Upcoming vaccinations - Reminders as due dates approach
• Overdue alerts - If a vaccination passes its due date

Account Notifications

Important account updates:

• Security alerts - Login from new device, password changes
• Account changes - Email updates, subscription changes
• These cannot be disabled for security reasons

Weekly Summaries

Optional digest emails:

• Pet activity recap - What happened this week
• Upcoming reminders - What's coming next week
• Health highlights - Recent records and changes

Tips and Guides

Optional educational content:

• Pet care tips - Helpful advice
• Feature announcements - New Petfolio features
• Seasonal reminders - Weather-related pet care

Enabling Push Notifications

Browser Notifications (Desktop)

1. Go to notification settings in Petfolio
2. Click Enable Push Notifications
3. Your browser will ask for permission
4. Click Allow
5. Notifications will appear on your desktop

Mobile Notifications

iOS (iPhone/iPad):

1. Visit Petfolio in Safari
2. Add to Home Screen for best experience
3. Enable notifications when prompted
4. Or: Settings > Petfolio > Notifications > Allow

Android:

1. Visit Petfolio in Chrome
2. Accept notification permission when prompted
3. Or: Settings > Apps > Petfolio > Notifications > Enable

Customizing Notification Timing

Medication Reminders

Choose when to be reminded:

1. Go to Notification Settings
2. Find Medication Reminders
3. Set reminder timing:
   • 5 minutes before - Last-minute reminder
   • 15 minutes before - Short notice
   • 30 minutes before - Standard
   • 1 hour before - Advance notice

Appointment Reminders

Choose reminder schedule:

1. Find Appointment Reminders
2. Enable/disable each option:
   • 1 week before
   • 1 day before
   • Morning of appointment
   • 1 hour before

Managing Notification Volume

If you're getting too many notifications:

Reduce Frequency

• Disable less important categories
• Opt for weekly digest instead of individual alerts
• Turn off sitter activity details (keep check-in/out only)

Focus on Essentials

Keep only critical notifications:

• Medication reminders (for safety)
• Security alerts (always on)
• Sitter check-in/out (if using sitter mode)

Notification Troubleshooting

Not receiving notifications

1. Check notification settings are enabled in Petfolio
2. Verify browser/device permissions
3. Check spam/junk folder for emails
4. Ensure notifications aren't muted on device
5. Try disabling and re-enabling

Too many notifications

1. Review each category in settings
2. Disable non-essential categories
3. Adjust timing to reduce redundancy
4. Opt for digest emails instead

Notifications delayed

• Push notifications require internet connection
• Email delivery may take a few minutes
• Check device's Do Not Disturb settings

Email Preferences

Changing Email Address

Notifications go to your account email:

1. Go to Profile > Account
2. Update your email address
3. Verify the new email
4. Notifications now go to new address

Unsubscribing

To stop marketing emails:

1. Click Unsubscribe at bottom of any email
2. Or disable in notification settings
3. Essential account emails cannot be disabled

Quiet Hours

Avoid notifications during sleep:

• Set Do Not Disturb on your device
• Petfolio respects device quiet hours
• Medication reminders may still appear (for safety)

Multiple Devices

Notifications sync across devices:

• Settings apply to all devices
• May receive on multiple devices simultaneously
• Adjust device-level settings as needed

For Medication Management

• Enable reminders for critical medications
• Set timing that works with your routine
• Keep backup reminders for important doses

For Pet Sitting

• Enable check-in notifications while traveling
• Disable activity details if too frequent
• Turn off when not using sitter mode

For General Use

• Start with defaults, then adjust
• Review settings periodically
• Disable what you consistently ignore
