Managing Your Account
Learn how to update your profile, change settings, and manage your Petfolio account.
Your Petfolio account settings let you personalize your experience and keep your information up to date. This guide covers everything you need to know about managing your account.
Accessing Account Settings
To access your account settings:
- Click your profile icon in the top navigation
- Select Profile from the dropdown
- You'll see all your account options
Updating Your Profile
Personal Information
You can update:
- Display name - How you appear in the app
- Profile photo - Upload a new avatar
- Phone number - For emergency card contact info
To make changes:
- Go to Profile
- Click Edit Profile
- Update your information
- Click Save Changes
Preferences
Customize your Petfolio experience:
- Weight unit - Choose between pounds (lbs) or kilograms (kg)
- Theme - Light mode, dark mode, or system default
- Notifications - Control what alerts you receive
Changing Your Password
If you signed up with email:
- Go to Profile > Security
- Click Change Password
- Enter your current password
- Enter your new password twice
- Click Update Password
Password Requirements
- At least 8 characters
- Mix of letters and numbers recommended
- Don't reuse passwords from other sites
Forgot Your Password?
If you can't log in:
- Go to the login page
- Click Forgot Password
- Enter your email address
- Check your email for a reset link
- Create a new password
Managing Notifications
Control how Petfolio communicates with you:
Push Notifications
- Medication reminders - Get alerts when medications are due
- Sitter updates - Know when your sitter logs activities
- Weekly summaries - Receive a recap of your pet's week
Email Notifications
- Account updates - Security and account changes
- Product news - New features and improvements
- Tips and guides - Pet care advice (optional)
To manage notifications:
- Go to Profile > Notifications
- Toggle each notification type on or off
- Changes save automatically
Theme Settings
Switch between light and dark modes:
- Click the theme toggle in the navigation
- Or go to Profile > Appearance
- Choose:
- Light - Bright, daytime friendly
- Dark - Easy on the eyes at night
- System - Match your device setting
Account Security
Two-Factor Authentication
Coming soon! We're working on adding 2FA for extra security.
Active Sessions
View and manage where you're logged in:
- Go to Profile > Security
- See all active sessions
- Click Log Out on any session you don't recognize
Suspicious Activity
If you notice anything unusual:
- Change your password immediately
- Log out of all other sessions
- Contact support@petfolio.io
Subscription Management
Viewing Your Plan
To see your current subscription:
- Go to Profile > Subscription
- View your plan details
- See billing history
Upgrading Your Plan
To unlock more features:
- Go to Profile > Subscription
- Click Upgrade
- Choose your new plan
- Complete payment
Canceling Your Subscription
If you need to cancel:
- Go to Profile > Subscription
- Click Manage Subscription
- Select Cancel
- Your access continues until the billing period ends
Note: Canceling doesn't delete your data. You can resubscribe anytime and your pets will still be there.
Deleting Your Account
If you want to permanently delete your account:
- Go to Profile > Account
- Scroll to Danger Zone
- Click Delete Account
- Read the warning carefully
- Type "DELETE" to confirm
- Click Permanently Delete
Warning: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your pet profiles, photos, and data will be erased.
What Gets Deleted
- Your user profile
- All pet profiles
- All photos and memories
- Health records and milestones
- Share links become invalid
Before Deleting
Consider:
- Exporting your data first
- Downloading your photos
- Saving important health records
Data Export
Download all your Petfolio data:
- Go to Profile > Data
- Click Export My Data
- Choose format (PDF or JSON)
- Download when ready
This includes:
- Pet profiles
- Health records
- Milestones
- Activity logs
Troubleshooting
Can't log in?
- Check your email/password
- Try the forgot password flow
- Make sure caps lock is off
- Clear your browser cache
Settings won't save?
- Check your internet connection
- Try refreshing the page
- Log out and back in
- Contact support if it persists
