Emergency Cards

Create and print emergency cards with your pet's vital information for quick access in urgent situations.

Petfolio's emergency cards put your pet's critical information at your fingertips when you need it most. Whether you're at the vet, traveling, or preparing for emergencies, these cards ensure caregivers have everything they need.

What's on an Emergency Card?

Your pet's emergency card includes:

  • Photo and name - Quick identification
  • Species and breed - Important for treatment decisions
  • Age and weight - Current vital stats
  • Microchip number - For identification if your pet gets lost
  • Allergies - Critical for medication decisions
  • Current medications - What your pet is taking
  • Vet contact info - Your veterinarian's phone and address
  • Owner contact info - Your phone number

Creating an Emergency Card

To create your pet's emergency card:

  1. Go to your pet's profile
  2. Click Emergency Card in the navigation
  3. Review the information displayed
  4. Make sure all critical info is filled in
  5. Click Print to create a physical card

Updating Information

The emergency card pulls from your pet's profile. To update any information:

  1. Go to your pet's Edit page
  2. Update the relevant fields:
    • Allergies under Medical Info
    • Microchip under Identification
    • Vet info under Veterinarian
  3. Save changes
  4. The emergency card updates automatically

Printing Tips

For the best results when printing:

  • Use cardstock paper for durability
  • Print at 100% scale (don't fit to page)
  • Laminate the card for water resistance
  • Print multiple copies for different locations

Suggested Locations

Keep emergency cards:

  • In your wallet or purse
  • On your refrigerator
  • In your pet's carrier or travel bag
  • With pet sitters or family members
  • In your car's glove compartment

Digital Emergency Card

Don't have time to print? The digital version works great:

  • Save the page to your phone's home screen
  • Screenshot and save to your photos
  • Share the link with family members
  • Access instantly from anywhere

Adding to Your Phone

iPhone:

  1. Open the emergency card in Safari
  2. Tap the Share button
  3. Select "Add to Home Screen"

Android:

  1. Open the emergency card in Chrome
  2. Tap the menu (three dots)
  3. Select "Add to Home Screen"

QR Code Feature

Each emergency card includes a QR code that links to your pet's shared profile. This is useful for:

  • Pet collar tags
  • Carrier identification
  • Quick access for veterinary staff
  • Sharing with caregivers

Tip: Print a small version of the QR code and attach it to your pet's collar. If they get lost, anyone can scan it to see your contact info!

What to Include

Make sure these fields are complete for an effective emergency card:

Must-Have Information

  • Current weight
  • Known allergies
  • Current medications
  • Your phone number
  • Vet phone number

Nice to Have

  • Microchip number
  • Vet address
  • Secondary contact
  • Special conditions

In an Emergency

If your pet has an emergency:

  1. Stay calm - Panic doesn't help your pet
  2. Show the card - Give it to the vet or emergency staff
  3. Point out allergies - Highlight any medication restrictions
  4. Provide weight - Critical for medication dosing
  5. Call your vet - They may have additional records

After Hours Emergencies

Keep the number for your local emergency vet on the card too. Most regular vets aren't available 24/7, so knowing the closest emergency animal hospital is essential.

Sharing Emergency Info

You can share emergency card access:

  1. Create a share link with medical info enabled
  2. Send to family members, pet sitters, etc.
  3. They can view (but not edit) the emergency card
  4. Great for vacation preparation

Keeping Information Current

Set a reminder to review your emergency card:

  • After every vet visit
  • When medications change
  • Quarterly for weight updates
  • Annually for a full review

Outdated information can be dangerous in an emergency. Make updates a habit!
