Vet Appointments

Schedule and track veterinary appointments for your pet.

Regular vet visits are essential for your pet's health. Petfolio helps you schedule appointments, track visit history, and never miss important check-ups.

Scheduling an Appointment

To add a vet appointment:

  1. Go to your pet's Health page
  2. Find the Appointments section
  3. Click Schedule Appointment
  4. Fill in the details:
    • Date and time - When the appointment is scheduled
    • Vet/Clinic name - Where you're going
    • Reason - Why the visit (check-up, vaccines, concern, etc.)
    • Notes - Anything to remember (optional)
  5. Click Save

Common Appointment Types

  • Annual wellness exam - Yearly check-up
  • Vaccination - Scheduled immunizations
  • Illness/Injury - When something's wrong
  • Follow-up - After treatment or surgery
  • Dental cleaning - Oral health care
  • Specialist visit - Referral to a specialist

Adding Vet Details

If you haven't added your vet's information:

  1. Go to your pet's Edit page
  2. Find the Veterinarian section
  3. Enter:
    • Vet name or clinic name
    • Phone number
    • Address (optional)
  4. Save changes

This information:

  • Appears on appointments
  • Shows on emergency cards
  • Is available to pet sitters

Viewing Upcoming Appointments

Your upcoming appointments appear:

  • On the Health page dashboard
  • In a list sorted by date
  • With countdown to the next visit

Click any appointment to see full details.

Marking Appointments Complete

After a vet visit:

  1. Find the appointment in your list
  2. Click Mark Complete or the checkmark
  3. Optionally add notes about the visit:
    • What the vet said
    • Any diagnoses
    • Follow-up instructions
  4. The appointment moves to your visit history

Adding Post-Visit Notes

Good notes to add after appointments:

  • Weight recorded at the vet
  • Vaccinations given
  • Test results or diagnoses
  • Recommended treatments
  • When to schedule the next visit

Cancelling Appointments

If plans change:

  1. Click on the appointment
  2. Select Cancel
  3. The appointment is removed from upcoming
  4. Optionally kept in history as cancelled

Remember to actually cancel with your vet's office too.

Viewing Past Appointments

See your pet's vet visit history:

  1. Go to the Health page
  2. Look for Past Appointments or History
  3. View all completed visits
  4. Click any past visit to see notes

This creates a useful record for:

  • Tracking visit frequency
  • Remembering what was discussed
  • Preparing for future appointments

Appointment Reminders

Never forget an appointment:

  1. Enable notifications in your profile settings
  2. Appointments trigger reminders automatically
  3. Typically reminded 1 day before and day-of
  4. Customize timing in notification preferences

Regular Check-Up Schedule

How often should you visit the vet?

Pet AgeRecommended Frequency
Puppies/Kittens (under 1 year)Every 3-4 weeks for vaccines, then annually
Adult pets (1-7 years)Once per year
Senior pets (7+ years)Twice per year

These are general guidelines. Follow your vet's recommendations.

Sharing Appointments with Sitters

When sharing your pet's profile:

  • Sitters can see upcoming appointments
  • Helps them know about scheduled care
  • Include vet contact info in the share

Tips for Vet Visits

Before the Appointment

  • Review your pet's recent health in Petfolio
  • Write down any concerns or questions
  • Note any behavior changes
  • Bring recent weight records

During the Appointment

  • Ask questions
  • Take notes (or add them to Petfolio right after)
  • Request copies of any test results

After the Appointment

  • Mark the appointment complete
  • Add detailed notes
  • Schedule follow-ups if needed
  • Update medications if prescribed

Tracking Costs

While Petfolio doesn't have built-in cost tracking, you can:

  • Add costs in the appointment notes
  • Keep receipts with uploaded documents
  • Track spending over time for budgeting
